With a mission to “unite people through music”, Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory (KJC) https://www.facebook.com/kathmandujazz is a catalyst for social change in the heart of Nepal. Offering world-class jazz courses to local Nepali students, providing a chance to learn from professional musicians from across the globe, KJC is passionately enlivening cultural community and creating positive opportunities for growth through music and arts. Recently affected by the devastating Nepal earthquakes, KJC has been sharing “Healing People With Music” workshops to bring the joy of music to those most touched by the tragedy. Although their community work continues with currently little income, KJC is in desperate need of financial support to repair and replace damaged property, and maintain the ongoing work in Nepal during these difficult times.

After touring Nepal in 2008 with his jazz outfit, the Chris Poulsen Trio, local Brisbane pianist Chris Poulsen was excited by the work of KJC and felt a strong connection to the Nepali people, “I was devastated to see the destruction the earthquakes had caused to so many of the beautiful people and places in Kathmandu. Knowing, and having participated in the great work Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory does for the local community, I really wanted to put something together to offer some support”.
